One of the best parts about being a teen is you can have a hot pink room and it is totally acceptable. If you did that to your bedroom now, your husband might flip out. But isn’t it always our dream to have a room to just go crazy with? Teen rooms are the best, they don’t have moms antiques to try and work into the décor, they are not afraid to go all out.
It’s the age from 11-13 that kids start to grow out of Spiderman and Princesses and begin to develop a sense of style and color. Something as simple as a room redo is an expression of what they like and what they want to surround themselves with.
But how do you find out what your teens taste is?
- Have them look at magazine and cut out what they like
- Go into stores with them and have them show you things they like
- Look up teen rooms online and HGTV will have loads of pictures to look through
After your teen has decided the overall style of they want to go with. The basic color palette needs to be decided on. If they find a floral comforter pull 3 colors to accent around the room. The colors can be used on the walls, rugs or pictures.
Teens surprisingly have a lot of stuff and a clean room always looks better. Sometimes a closet just needs to be reworked for keeping things off the floor. A storage ottoman can provide seating and a place to put art supplies or sweaters. Wall mounted book shelves are very handy. They keep books and magazines off the floor and desk. Or just get rid of stuff. Chances are some of the décor in the room will not work in the new one. Your teen may as well go through everything else to see if anything needs to be donated or sold.
Some cool ideas Mod Pod customers have done for teen rooms:
- Bright color barstools and a bar table- they take up a small space and provide seating for friends and a study place
- Fun chair with an adjustable end table- great reading area, but with an adjustable table it makes a great study area
- Bathroom rug – works well beside a bed for a fun inexpensive accent piece
- Paper lanterns – use them as a light or as a fun thing to hang from the ceiling above a chair or bed or put over the current light fixture
If you need ideas or have great ideas to share about teen rooms let me know! This should be a fun experience and we try to get those creative juices flowing at Mod Pod.
